Salmon are on the move!
As of April 30th, there were 212 spring Chinook (king) salmon counted at the Cole Rivers Hatchery, almost 200 of which entered over the past week. These spring king salmon have traveled over 200 miles from the ocean mouth headed "home." Over the next weeks and months there will be a steady migration of salmon to the Upper Rogue, stacking in familiar holes on the river and making for productive and predictable fishing for guides and anglers.
The salmon report from the Lower Rogue (Gold Beach) has been good. With plenty of spring salmon in the lower river it has been busy with boats and anglers. Reports from the Middle Rogue (Grants Pass) state that there are plenty of salmon in the travel lanes moving upstream.
Our guides are currently fishing for spring salmon on the Upper Rogue River near the town of Shady Cove, just north of Medford and will be fishing for spring salmon through July.
If you would like to fish for salmon mid summer through the fall, our 2nd run of Chinook (king) salmon show from mid to late July and are available through September.
Beginning in July we will also be fishing for summer steelhead.
Keep in mind:
- The next free fishing days will be June 7th and 8th. You do not need a license or tag when fishing on these dates.
- Trout fishing is currently closed and will reopen May 22nd.
Our guides fish year round. For more information on salmon or steelhead seasons click here.
