Salmon and Steelhead Fishing on the Southern Oregon Coast -
With a rather dry fall it took a little longer than usual for the sand to clear from the mouths of the Elk and Sixes Rivers (Port Orford). Despite this, there were kings still to be caught and more recently some winter steelhead to add to the mix. With more winter storms, salmon and steelhead will continue to enter the rivers and move upstream. Our guides will be steelhead fishing on the Elk and Sixes now through the 1st months of the new year.
Spring Salmon Fishing on the Rogue River -
After salmon season ends on the Elk, the next best opportunity for salmon fishing is on the Upper Rogue River beginning in May. Spring salmon are in their peak during May and June on the Rogue and are the best eating salmon of the year.
Winter Steelhead Fishing Opportunities-
If you are looking for some winter steelhead fishing opportunities, in addition to the Elk and Sixes, our guides will be also fishing on the Upper and Middle Rogue (Medford, Grants Pass), the Umpqua River (Canyonville) and numerous smaller tributaries.
Currently our guides are fishing the Upper Rogue for summer steelhead, trout and Coho salmon and we will be fishing for these fish through the holidays.
Rogue winter steelhead tend to arrive in January as do winter steelhead on the Umpqua River, just one river drainage north. Winter steelhead are prized for their size and might with the Umpqua producing some of the biggest and fiercest winter steelhead in Southern Oregon.
If you are looking for a bit of an adventure while seeking winter fish, our guides, when conditions permit, will also be offering trips on smaller and more remote sections of river including the uppermost section of the Umpqua, coastal streams including the Milicoma, the Coquille Canyon, and tributaries of the Rogue including the Illinois and the Applegate Rivers.
Winter fishing can vary based on weather and river conditions. For the latest information give us a call, email or keep an eye on this report.
Happy Fishing!
